Surface Burner Ignition
The most common Dacor range complaint is a burner that clicks slowly or will not light. As on any pro-style gas range, spillover and cleaning residue foul the igniter or block the burner ports, or the burner cap is reseated crookedly, or the igniter is damp. Clean and dry the caps and ports, reseat the caps squarely, and confirm crisp ignition. If a burner still clicks without lighting once clean, its spark igniter or the shared module needs attention.
The Gas Oven That Glows but Will Not Heat
On gas Dacor ovens, a weakening bake igniter is a frequent no-heat cause. The igniter glows but no longer draws enough current to open the gas safety valve, so the oven is slow to heat or does not heat while the igniter still glows. Watching the igniter during a bake cycle usually confirms it. Replacing the igniter is a standard OEM repair.
Dacor Range: Symptom to Cause to Fix
| Symptom | Likely Cause | Typical Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Burner clicks, will not light | Fouled or wet igniter, misseated cap | Clean, dry, reseat; replace igniter |
| Oven glows but will not heat | Weak gas bake igniter | Replace the oven igniter |
| Bakes unevenly | Sensor drift or worn seal | Replace sensor or door gasket |
| Control unresponsive | Control board | Reset once; test control |
Uneven Baking and Controls
If the oven heats but bakes unevenly or misses its set point, the temperature sensor has usually drifted or the door seal has worn. Both are inexpensive, standard repairs. A control that is unresponsive may clear with a single power reset at the breaker; if it does not, the control board needs testing. On models with a display, a returning fault code points to the specific subsystem, as covered in our Dacor oven codes guide.
Gas Smell That Will Not Clear?
Stop trying to light the burner, ventilate the room, and if the smell persists leave and call your gas utility before any repair.
The Bottom Line
Dacor range problems are usually the surface igniters, the gas oven igniter, or the temperature sensor and seal. Clean and dry burners first, watch the oven igniter during a bake, and expect standard OEM repairs on a range designed to be serviced.
